THOM BROWNE WARDROBE GUIDE

Ont that I hink must have inspired the young/old look must be Thom Browne. Known for his short and often rolled up pants, Thom swears to a tailored look both in private and for his brand.
How to work the look according to Thom:
Shoes: Heavy black leather wingtip shoes with no socks.
Socks: If you wear socks it has to be knee-highs.
Trousers: Must sit right at the top of the ankle and it must not break on to the shoe. my trousers are 2-3 inches shorter than normal with a turn-up as well.
Shirt: A white round-collared shirt, unironed.
Watch: Small and tight to the arm
Grey suit jacket: Timeless and rich.

Seen in Copenhagen. Not sure if these are knee-highs (!) but colourful and pattern socks is a must.

OLD AGE TEENS

One thing is certain. The next big thing for boys is the young/old look. With inspiration from the preppy style and the Ivy League colleges in America (like Princeton and Yale), the look is based upon quality and classic items like shirts, vest, chinos and leather shoes.
Our Legacy goes for the young/old look:

THE GALLERY

The fashion fair Gallery was quite big and interesting. One thing I noticed was that many brands looks just the same. There where not many brands that stood out of the crowd.
Some did of course: I liked Our Legacy that showed nice boys clothing in fantastic quality and shapes, Siv Støldal had reflex tees that had a very strong 90s vibe, Carin Wester had some fantastic college sweaters and it does not get much better than the Bernhard Willhelm hi tops. I also must mention the boots from Acne that looks like a mix of Red Wing and Dr. Martens.
Other than that: lots of black, leather, boots: a very dressed up look and lots of boring stuff.

BREAKBEAT JEANS

Cheap Monday SS 08
Cheap Monday SS 08

Acne Jeans
Acne Jeans

As I have written earlier, there is no doubt that chinos will be big this spring. But what about the jeans? While some seems to be stuck in the 70s (or the 70s retro in the 90s) and never gets out of their flaired jeans others goes for the wide and loose jeans.
Personally I think I will go for jeans with pattern, different colours, patchwork tecniques or odd shapes. Like these ones from Cheap Monday´s spring collection or Acne Jeans who has a more sober alternative.

PELICAN AVENUE

Caroline Lerch graduated at the fashion department of the royal academy for fine arts i Antwerp in 1999. Since then she has worked as fashion designer assistent, a production manager of Bernhard Willhelm and done several video and art projects. She has also made these capes, and they look great. I actually tried the hide cape on in Tokyo (at Factory), but after half an hour I decided not to buy it. Even though it rains a lot in Bergen, it is very sheer and too cold to wear as outerwear, but I could of course wear it as a dress or just a wrap around thing. Even though I did not buy this one, I think light nylon jackets in every shape will be good for spring/summer.

CHUCKS BACK ALREADY?

Just loving this photoshoot from my favourite mag Cover. But hey, are chuck taylors back already? I actually do not care that much, cause I think the shoes always looks fresh even though I have been tired of them for the last couple of years. This photoshoot looks like it is five years old, so it feels kind of illegal cause it breaks the 10 year rule of trend cirkles. Love the stockings as well, I bought some earlier this autumn and it fits in just perfect. I like!

HI-TOPS!

Looks like the new shoe-trend is hi-tops. It is everywhere, and after a while with cute plimsoles I am ready for some heavy shoes. Raf Simons and Bernhard Willhelm is showing the way (of course) but there also are classics like Air Jordan from Nike and L.A Gear who were big in the late 80s/early 90s. I also love that Bernhard Willhelms shoes for the aw 07/08 is described as hip house (gotta love the music!).
Here are some of my hi-tops favourites!

UTE PLOIER (AND THOSE FACE PRINTS)

Ute Ploier released her menswear-collection in 2003, with lots of support from her mentor Raf Simons (you can tell by her design). She focuse on wearable and comfortable clothes and her designs features elements from different social standings.
I love these prints on the t-shirt and I guess we will see more of this in the future.

WIDE LEG

You know the deal when it comes to fashion, everything goes in circles and one trend is a reaction to another. Therefore it is pure logic when the wide leg jeans arrives, best/worst part is that I think it looks fresh! I guess we all get tired of something after a while, allthough I still prefer slim jeans.

DYE OR DIE?

Not sure what to think about the SS-08 craze about dyed hairextensions. First seen at Anna Sui, then at Rodarte and Marc by Marc Jacobs.
It is not that many years ago since I had purple extensions myself, but then again I have stopped saying never, cause after a while you suddenly think it is cool and somehow a fresh thing. I have stopped being shocked when trends are looping, and this is certainly another 90s trend coming back, but when Avril Lavigne has red extensions all over her newest video? I dunno.
What do you think?

OVERPOWERED

Martin Margiela goes for the shoulder pad look and so can you! Buy a pair of shoulder pads and wear under your old tees, sweaters and jackets, and suddenly you will have a updated and Margiela-ish look!

THE CHINO PANT

I do no think that jeans will ever disappear from peoples legs, but it might go in and out of fashion. It seems like the chino pant will make a comeback, and perhaps take over for jeans for a while. This classic pant is said to be a key product in Acne Jeans -collections the next years. I bought a pair from Wood Wood a couple of months ago and I love it.
The pants showed in the picture are from Siv Stoldal and can be bought at tresbien-shop.com

TUBE COMEBACK

Looks like the tube top/dress makes a comeback. Marni, Jil Sander and American Apparel all have their version. Remember you can wear it over a tee or a sweater for a more casual look. I like!

THE BOOTS

I love the big boots compared with leggings and a soft tee. For a warmer outfit use a long and soft sweater.

BLONDIE

I would really like to try to be blonde, but I do not think I will go for it. Anyway, Peaches Geldof looks good in blonde. Now I also really need to sleep, getting up at 05.45 tomorrow.

BUFFALO SOLDIERS

Sirkelen er slutta. Eg henta opp mine 10 år gamle Buffalo-sko frå kjellaren i dag, og kven veit? Ein vakker haustkveld blir dei kanskje brukt (snart). Veldig inspirerande moteserie i septembernummer av Cover der dei kun brukar noken fine, svarte Buffalo-sko. Litt enklare enn mine, men så er jo mine gratis (no i andre runde).

It is the cirkle of fashion. I picked up my 10 year old Buffalo-shoes today and who knows? Maybe I will wear them a late autumn night? In this second round they are for free!

HELLO AFRICA!

Ethno, tribal, inka: important keywords for the autumns (and springs) inspiration. While some go for the desert and savannah-look (Acne Jeans), others are inspired by the early 90s ethno-look (for instanse Henrik Vibskov).
Think Dr. Alban, Snap, C+C Music factory, Living joy and 2 Unlimited. If you are going for colours this autumn: Go ethno!

Music: Snap: Cult of Snap. Very inspiring!
